Both teams exchanged scoring opportunities in overtime but both were unsuccessful at ending the game, sending the game into a shootout to decide the outcome.

Regular Season Results Against Temple University

For the third game in a row of the season, and the second time of that weekend, Slippery Rock faced Temple.

This was the closest game between the two clubs.

Temple came out strong to start the game by scoring the first goal, trying to bounce back from the loss Slippery Rock handed them earlier that day. But Slippery Rock evened things up for a socre of 1-1 at the end of the first period.

As the teams exchanged scoring opportunities at both ends of the rink, Temple broke the tie bringing the score 2-1 in favor of the Owls. But Slippery Rock was able to tie the game back up for a score of 2-2 at the end of two periods of play.

The scoring pattern continued in the third where Temple scored trying to pull away on the score board but Slippery Rock was able to tie the game yet again at 3-3 being the final score at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime.

As both teams went at it in having their chances to end the game in the short 5:00 overtime period, neither team was able to put an end to the game.

To determine a winner, the game went into a shootout. Normally being a best of 3, Slippery Rock and Temple were tied yet again in the score of the shootout. So from there on it was sudden death rounds, first team to score without the other team to score would be the winners.

It wasn't until the 7th round of the shootout where Temple was finally able to end the game and walk away with the win.

We're looking to the fact that having our full team on hand will help us to continue our success and play even better than preseason.

The four game The Pride will be playing this weekend will be against Rowan University, Neumann University, West Chester University, and Temple University.

Two of the teams, Neumann and West Chester being familiar faces from preseason.

Preseason Results Against Neumann University.

This weekend Slippery Rock had a three game schedule for preseason. The Pride (Slippery Rock) won two out of three games on the weekend, their only loss coming from the Neumann Knights by a score of 7-2.

The Pride were out shot by the Knights 25-20. The Knights goalie played a great game by stopping 18 of the 20 shots, posting a .900% save percentage.

The Pride traveled short handed this weekend only having a seven skater bench while the Knights had almost their full roster to what it seemed like. Along with having a shot roster to work with on the weekend, this was the third game on the weekend for the Pride, so everyone was feeling the fatigue from all the games.

But at the end of the weekend, it's only preseason, so a loss isn't something to hang out heads about. We just have to look back and reflect on it and take it as a learning experience so we know what to expect next time the Pride take on the Knights.

These two clubs only have a three game history. In this three game history, Slippery rock has won all three games.

In these three games, Slippery Rock has put up an impressive 26 goals why Neumann has only posted 6 six goals.

Rumor has it that Neumann has recruited after last season. So while Slippery Rock looks to stay undefeated against Neumann, they're not gonna make it easy this year.

PRESEASON

Coming up this weekend is the first action of the season for Slippery Rock Universities D3 Inline Hockey Team. IT'S PRESEASON WEEKEND! This means exhibition games before the start of the regular season. These games do not count towards the teams regular season record.

Preseason is the time where you work on playing your game and doing so effectively. This is the time to get the kinks and bugs worked out of your teams systems. These games are where you make your first impression on the other teams and try to make a statement showing that you're there to compete.

Not only is this the time to work on all the aspects of your game, it's a time to just have fun and enjoy playing since the games don't go towards your season record. Mistakes are meant to be made in preseason so it's all about finding out what needs to be worked on and having fun while doing so.

Player Profile

I'm a defenseman for Slippery Rock's Division 3 Inline Hockey team. More notably, I'm more of the stay at home type of defenseman. With that being said, I play a very defensive minded game. I'm not one to make a lot of offensive rushes or try to score a lot. I prefer trying to prevent the opposition from scoring and I rather try to set plays up because I feel like my skating abilities and passing abilities are stronger that my scoring abilities.

My preferred defensive position is on the right side because that helps to keep my stick more in the middle of the rink. I feel as if I can complete my passes better and get better shots on net while being on the right side of the rink.

I am a left handed shot. For those of you who don't know, when a player is a left handed shot that means their right hand is on the top of the stick and their left hand is placed around the middle of the stick to do most of the shooting work.

Preseaon Rankings

Before every season is started, preseason ranks are released based on predictions of who the top teams in the nation will be.

But before I dive into the rank of my team here at Slippery Rock University, I feel like it is important that you know the breakdown of the divisions. You have your normal top two divisions in Division 1 and Division 2, and Division 3 which is the division my team competes in. Now Division 3 is not just a normal division. It is a division where if you have a team competing in either Division 1, which the division Slippery Rock fields their top team in, or Division 2 and you can field a second team, the second team of your school gets placed in Division 3, formerly known as B Division.

Now back to the preseason rankings. The preseason rankings are based off of your teams previous years record and success. Last year, Slippery Rock's Division 3 team went 13-3 throughout the regular season and finished in the final four at nationals. So with the success this team had last year, this year we have the pleasure of starting off with a preseason rank at number 4 in the nation.

An Introduction To The Game Of Inline Hockey

For those of you who don't know the game of inline hockey, it is a little different from the ice hockey games you watch on television. To start off, as it says in the name of the sport, it is played on inline skates rather than ice skates. Unlike how ice hockey typically has five skaters on the ice per team, for inline hockey you only have four skaters on the rink. Inline hockey is a non contact sport, which is a benefit for people like me who are not really the biggest out there on the rink. What also makes inline hockey different from ice hockey is that there is no off sides, so you can spread the play of the game out the entire length of the rink without having to worry about offsides. So with the sport having less skaters on the rink, being a non contact sport, and having no offsides, it makes the game a lot faster paced. Along with having less skaters on the rink, teams typically do not have as many players as the typical ice hockey team does, the preferred amount of skaters is usually between eight to ten. So if you didn't know about the game of inline hockey, you now have somewhat of an idea of how the game is played.
